Randle Chupp and Eric Jacobsen Team Up For The National 100
Chupp and Jacobsen have joined forces to compete in the 32nd Annual National 100 at the East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL (Nov 2-5, 2006). Both drivers will be entering a Jacobsen Racing #5 Rocket Chassis Pro Powered machine in the $30,000 to win event.
The 2-car / 2-driver team will be supported by members from both EJ Racing and RC Racing. Ronald Hackworth and Brian Withrow will be wrenching on the #5 machine piloted by Jacobsen with Doug Stout and Jamie Kuntz wrenching on the #5c machine piloted by Chupp.
Eric “The Earth Shaker” Jacobsen of Santa Cruz, CA began his Dirt Late Model career in 2000 competing on the West Coast circuit. He entered the Dirt Motorsports World of Outlaws Late Model Series in 2005 and was a 2006 Rookie of The Year contender. After capturing a respectable 16th place finish at East Alabama Motor Speedway’s June 2006 World of Outlaw event, he will be making his first attempt to qualify for the unsanctioned National 100 mega-event.
Randle “The Show Stappa” Chupp of Troutman, NC is an Alabama native and second generation driver learning the business from his father, Gene Chupp. Gene competed for 38 years dominating the Alabama Dirt Late Model circuit with more than 700 feature wins to his credit. Randle is a two-time National 100 Champion (1996, 2000) and also holds the distinction of consecutively qualifying for and starting 14 of the event’s 100-lap feature races (1992-2005) and securing six top-3 finishes.
However, Chupp’s 15th consecutive entry was threatened by on-going mechanical troubles with his Starrette Trucking owned Rocket Chassis machine; that is, until Randle and Eric came together and discovered they had mutual benefits to offer each others racing program. Chupp, the proven veteran, in need of a machine that would withstand the gulling demands of such a massive race weekend; and Jacobsen, the rookie, in need of a coach that could guide him through an event that is affectionately know as “The 72 hours of hell you just can’t resist”.
The Dirt Late Model program for the 2006 running of the EAMS National 100 will kick off with open practice sessions on Thursday and Friday. Saturday will start with timed qualifying to determine heat race starting positions followed by the 15-lap heat events to determine what drivers will transfer to the feature race. Sunday will bring the excitement of the last-change consolation races with the green flag dropping on the 24-car field’s 100-lap chase around the 3/8th mile 18 degree banked red clay oval to capture the $30,000 winner’s check.
