Techman, Why was Terrance Nowell and the #18 car disqualified Saturday night. Dana's car was passed on through after his carb was checked. I didn't see any checking done on Williams car, and then heard the #18 was o.k. Then later I understand you d.q.'d them after saying they were o.k. What's up? Did someone file a protest and ask for something else be looked at? It is my understanding valve covers are never removed unless their is an upper end protest. If there was a protest, who protested? Just wondering. They are just getting that car dialed in and didn't understand the call. Thanks, Eke

Eke, Everyone in the top 3 had tires, & carbs checked, and were asked to remove valve covers to make sure they had the right heads and valve train. The K9, 22, 18, and then the 10 car did the same thing. The 18 was dq'd because of shaft rockers. The track reserves the right to inspect anything at any time, and pulling valve covers is something I have done from time to time all season. They were disqualified on the spot, I did not leave and come back later. I truly hate it for those guys, I know they are trying their best to get the car dialed in, but I also have a job to do, and the rockers were wrong. I am sorry if they did see the checking done on the other cars but it was done, that is why they were all held in tech after the race. Ask Dana, William, and Ricky if you don't believe me.

You would have me believe that both Dana and William were legal even though they pulled away from everyone, almost at will, until their tires started giving up? I also talked with guys on the K9 team and the 18 team and their recollection of the inspection process doesn't match with yours. They both specifically said you originally told the 18 car they were legal and then came back and asked them to remove the valve cover a second time. There is no argument the rockers were on a shaft, but many of the drivers have been running them all season with the promoters blessing. Also, which cars do you "randomly" check and what is the criteria for those inspections? It makes a team look bad to their sponsors when they are accused of cheating, especially when they are running stuff they had been told was o.k.
Just wondering.

I will be at the track next Saturday night, and we will get the driver's from the K9, 22, and the 10 all together to ask them what was checked. I think you are making some of this up as you go, for starters there was no one from the K9 team any where near the 18 when it was being inspected, because they were putting their stuff back together. But I am not going to call you a liar by any means. The best way to settle this dispute, is for you to meet me at the scales next Saturday, and we will get the drivers or crew chiefs from all the teams there and ask them what was inspected. As for what was told, I don't know, but Billy himseld told me Monday that the car owner came to the shop, and discussed this, and was told ok 2 or 3 years ago not this year. As tech inspector I go by the written rule book, if it is not in writing then it is not a rule. This however is the last I will say about it on the computer, if you wish to discuss it further, my phone number is on the EAMS and Penton websites, or come to the track and discuss it with me personally, I have no problem with either one.

I'm not calling you a liar and not trying to cause a problem. Just trying to figure out what is going on. Things always get a little crazy this time of year with the points races coming to a close and different ones trying new stuff before the State and National. Just asking what the criteria was, was it applied equally to all concerned, and trying to figure out what is true and what is not. Thanks for replying.

I have no problem with your trying to figure out what was going on, but all the top 3 were checked the same, and once the 18 was dq'd, I went over to the 10 car and checked the same thing. Like I said though if you have more question feel free to call me or come by and see me at the scales, I will gladly discuss things.
