6 Crown Southern Speedweek Rapidly Approaching!
Birmingham, AL-The 4th Annual Brown Engineering 6 Crown Southern Speedweek will take place during the traditional 4th of July time frame. The mini tour receives less accolades than some other favored series, but the “blue collar” 6 Crown Southern Speedweek boasts the best car count average, most compact travel schedule, and best quality of talent and race tracks than any tour of its kind in the region.
Last year’s tour saw over 90 different racers compete and had a documented car count average of 39.4 cars per race in front of big crowds along the way. Mike Boland of Cuba, Alabama took his second series championship and $2,000 for the point’s title for the 5 race tour in 2006. Event winners last season included regional standouts such as David Gentry, Rick Rickman, Dane Dacus, Chris Wall, and Mike Boland.
The year’s version of the Southern Speedweek will see the series expand and visit 6 tracks in 6 nights with each event being 40-laps with $2,000 to win each. The series points fund will once again pay the top 7 drivers and the unique points format will see drivers use their best 4 finishes be used towards the final points tally. This will allow drivers to compete by running a minimum of 4 events, or for drivers who run 5 or 6 events to drop their worst finishes.
The Speedweek will begin on Thursday Night June 28th at Duck River Speedway, then move south down I-65 to Moulton Speedway on Friday Night June 28th. The tour moves some 2 hours southwest across the Mississippi state line for a two night stint beginning at Columbus Speedway on Saturday night June 30th, and move some 11 miles west to the Magnolia Motor Speedway on Sunday night July 1st. Then it is back to Alabama to the Talladega Short Track for the Monday night “War Between The States” event on July 2nd, while the tour finishes at the revamped North Alabama Speedway on Tuesday night July 3rd.
