Columbus Speedway Ready to Race in March!
Columbus, MS-Columbus Speedway will hit the ground running when the season opens in March as action will be intense from the get go and big money is on the line immediately. In addition to big events dotting the schedule there are other changes planned including having a wall in place in turns three and four along with a complete resurfacing of the track with new red clay. The new wall and fresh clay should be in place for the season opener on March 3rd at 6pm. There will also be an open practice on Friday night March 2nd from 8pm until 10pm.
The 2007 season opener will begin with the traditional Golden Triangle Championships featuring the Commercial Dispatch RCWRS Super Late Models in an at least $1,000 to win and $100 to start 20-lap main event as the winner's money can increase with car count plus contingencies. The event will serve as a great opportunity to gain Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series points plus to get to valuable track time for the Rebel Challenge on the fresh surface for the following weekend. Other classes in action as part of the line up for the 2007 Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series include the Open Wheel Modified, Late Model Stocks, Stormpay Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks.
The 6th Annual Brown Engineering Rebel Challenge at Columbus Speedway continues to grow as the event held March 9th and 10th at Columbus Speedway will see a record payout up for grabs. The fund raising event with all proceeds benefiting the Bobby Brown Scholarship fund will see Super Late Models gunning for over $13,000 possible to win in the sixth running of the event that is promoted by engine builder Robert Brown. The race will have the $2,000 to win "Rebel Rouser 30" to get action kicked off on Friday night March 9th at 8pm and will conclude with the "Rebel Challenge 50" paying $10,000 to win on Saturday night March 10th at 6pm. The weekend will serve as a very lucrative test and tune session as well for the upcoming World of Outlaw Late Models show coming March 24th.
The popular event at Columbus Speedway has drawn potent and talented drivers from across the nation. Past winners during the event include defending champion Earl Pearson Jr, plus Clint Smith, Anthony Rushing, Scott Bloomquist, Shannon Babb, and Steve Russell.
Also as an added bonus on Friday night March 9th there will be the Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series "Members Only" Invitational presented by Mississippi One-Call that is exclusively for 2006 (last year) season RCWRS members only. This race for the Super Late Models will be a 20-lap $1,200 to win and $100 to start event that will also reward 2007 RCWRS points. This will allow fans to see two Super Late Model main events on Friday night to get the weekend kicked off in a grand style. Robert Brown came up with the idea for this portion of the event as he wanted to have a race that rewarded and recognized the "weekly racer" for their efforts and helped insure they get purse money as well.
RCWRS Super Late Model drivers should note that the combined high point driver from opening night March 3rd and the RCWRS Invitational race on Friday night the 9th will be guaranteed a starting position in the $10,000 to win main event on March 10th. The 2006 RCWRS Champion Danny Peoples is guaranteed a starting position as well in the $10,000 to win main event.
Local divisions competing and in action are the Open Wheel Modifieds running heats and features BOTH nights paying at least $600 to win. The Late Model Stocks/Crates will be racing for $1,500 to win and the Street Stocks will be racing for $700 to win as both classes will have heat races on Friday night and main events on Saturday night.

Fans and drivers should also note that Columbus Speedway will play host the 360OTC World of Outlaw Late Model Series in the $10,000 to win "Bullring Brawl" on Saturday evening March 24th at 6pm that is a must see event as well. Many of the nation's top drivers will be in the house waging war on Johnny Stokes' high banks looking to capture the coveted win. The WoO event last year saw "Kid Rocket" Josh Richards make an exciting pass over Timmy McCreadie with two laps to go to take the win in a wild, knockdown drag out, 50-lap affair.
