Super Late Models and Kids Bike Races Headline May 20th Event!
Columbus, MS – Columbus Speedway will be in action this Saturday night May 20th with its newly revamped weekly program featuring the return of the Super Late Model division as part of the Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series on a weekly basis along with bike races for the kids plus all local divisions.
The Commercial Dispatch Super Late Model division is back as part of the weekly show at Columbus Speedway. The May 20th event will see Super Late Models compete in a 20-lap main event paying at least $1,000 to win with at least $1,200 possible to win. Other contingencies already in place include a $100 Cooley Transportation and 78 Towing Pole Award plus a $100 bonus to win with a Brown Engineering engine. Super Late Models will receive Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series points as well.
There will also be bike races for the kids as they take part in the Bullring Bicycle Championships. Kids will be able to take on the Baddest Bullring in the South. Bike racers will be split by age groups and gender.
All other Columbus Speedway local divisions will be in action including the Open Wheel Modifieds and Late Model Stocks in a 20-lap main events. Both of the Open Wheel Modifieds and Late Model Stocks will have single lap Pole Qualifying to determine the starting positions for the 20-lap main. The fast qualifier will draw for an inversion as well. This weekend will serve as a great opportunity for the Modifieds to test and tune for the upcoming 4-Crown event on May 27th.
Plus all other exciting local divisions including the growing Stormpay Late Model division, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Cruisers and Hot Shots will all be in action. These classes should note their features will be run early in the program.
Current early season Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series points championship standings has Chris Wall of Holden, LA leading the Super Late Model division, Tony Gray of Coker, AL leading the Modified class, Ruble Maxey of Amory on top in the Late Model Stock division, and Meridian’s Talbert Goldman leading the Stormpay Late Model class. The Street Stock division has Kevin Monahan of Columbus showing the way and Michael Pendley of Bankston in the lead in the Mini Stock class. The Jacob Stapp team from Columbus is leading the Cruiser division points with Ben Williams of Columbus on top of the Hot Shot points.
Fans and participants should also make note to visit the new Columbus Engine and Crank Shaft Pit Concession and the new Funnel Cake stand behind the grandstand near the entrance that will feature ice cold Pepsi products, fresh funnel cakes, and peanuts.
Event information has grandstand gates opening at 5pm with racing at 7:30pm. Adult grandstand admission is $10 with children 10 and under old admitted free. Active Military and students ages 11 to 18 are admitted for $8. Pit passes are $25. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome in the grand stands. The on-site racing PA broadcast can be heard on FM 88.5. Pit gates open at 4pm with the driver’s meeting at 6:00pm with hot laps to follow.
