G.R. Smith Picks Up First Win of 2007 in Delaware!
(HUNTERSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA) G.R. Smith and his Premier Motorsports team
reached victory lane for the first time in the 2007 racing season on Friday
night, June 1 at the Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown, Delaware! After a
strong run in his heat race, G.R. redrew a number four prior to the running
of the $2,500 to win A-Main. The young Huntersville, North Carolina native
rolled off from the outside of the second row for the feature event and
found his way to the front of the field in the opening laps. G.R. was able
to hold off the stellar field to record the victory, as he beat Billy
Decker, Ricky Elliott, Kenny Pettyjohn, and David Pettyjohn to the checkers.
One day earlier, G.R. was in action in a World of Outlaws Late Model Series
show at the Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Delaware on Thursday,
May 31. He was thirty-fourth fastest in qualifying and later finished
eighth in his competitive heat race. Following a fourth place performance
in the B-Main, G.R. started the $10,000 to win A-Main from the twenty-second
starting position. After fifty green flag racing laps, the driver known as
the "Wild Child" was credited with a nineteenth place finish. The Premier
Motorsports team was also scheduled to race on Saturday, June 2 at the 311
(NC) Motor Speedway, but engine woes during hot laps prevented G.R. in
competing in the 'Twin 25s.'
"It feels good to get that monkey off of our back and finally win a race
this year," quoted G.R. earlier this week via telephone. "I was good at
Georgetown earlier in the year and couldn't quite pull off the win, but I
was able to get it done last Friday night. Unfortunately, we had some
mechanical problems in hot laps on Saturday at 311, but we should have
everything fixed in time to go to Lavonia this weekend!"
The Premier Motorsports team is set to invade the Lavonia Speedway in
Lavonia, Georgia this Saturday night, June 9. The O'Reilly Southern
Allstars Series will sanction a $5,000 to win event on Saturday in the
Peachtree State. You can view more information on this show by accessing
