Wendell Wallace Leads Flag-to-Flag En Route to Third 'Show-Me 100' Title!
(SIMSBORO, LOUISIANA) Wendell Wallace claimed his third O'Reilly 'Show-Me
100' title over the weekend at the West Plains Motor Speedway in West
Plains, Missouri, as he bested a stellar field of Dirt Late Models to pickup
the $41,000 payday! On Friday, May 25, Wendell was eighth quickest in
qualifying and later dominated his heat race. The Batesville, Arkansas
native then rolled his pristine Garrett Racing / Davison Transport / Delph
Communications / JFR Graphics #88 GRT / Gaerte machine off from the outside
of the front row for the 100-lap feature event on Saturday evening, May 26.
The driver known as the "Batesville Bullet" took the lead from polesitter
Clint Smith at the outset of the fifteenth annual O'Reilly 'Show-Me 100' and
immediately displayed his dominance over the star-studded field. Even with
numerous caution periods throughout the mega-event, Wendell continued to
pace the field. Following the end of 100 green flag laps on the racy,
3/8-mile oval, Wendell had led flag-to-flag to earn the $41,000 victory
ahead of runner-up Billy Moyer, Brian Shirley, Clint Smith, and Brady Smith!
Garrett Durrett was also in action over the weekend at the West Plains Motor
Speedway, but unfortunately failed to make the starting field for the
A-Main. Raymond Merrill piloted a third Garrett Racing entry to a solid
tenth place finish in the annual feature event after finishing third in his
competitive heat race. In addition to Wendell winning his heat race and the
main event, he also won the Past Champions race over Terry Phillips, Billy
Moyer, Scott Bloomquist, and Ray Cook!
"It was a great weekend for our entire team," quoted Wallace after winning
the premier event. "The crew worked really hard preparing this new car and
all of their hard work really paid off. I was a little skeptical about
bringing a new car to the Show-Me, but now I am glad I did. It was fast
right out of the box and I was able to stay out of trouble all weekend. I
have to thank Garrett Racing, Davison Transport, JFR Graphics, Delph
Communications, Hoosier Tire, Integra Shocks, GRT Race Cars, and Gaerte
Engines, along with all of my other great sponsors for all of their
continued support. Hopefully, the win will boost our confidence and we can
get on a hot streak for the summer months!"
The Garrett Racing team will be back in action this Saturday night at the
venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The Lucas Oil Late Model
Dirt Series will sanction the annual 'Ralph Latham Memorial' and a $10,000
top prize is up for grabs. A complete show will be on tap Saturday, June 2
at the Cincinnati area venue and will be highlighted by a 50-lap feature
event, which will be taped by the cameras of the SPEED Channel for viewing
later in the year. Wendell is a former winner of the historic event, as he
took the checkers back in 1999. You can learn more about this show online
