ARCHDALE, NC (May 15, 2007)- Earl Pearson Jr. and the Bobby Labonte Racing Team competed at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland MO over the weekend in the 1st annual Diamond Nationals sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Earl would qualify for the feature event by finishing 3rd in his heat race to earn a 14th starting position for the 100-lap feature event that paid $25,000 to the winner. Earl would advance up to into the top ten during the early stages of the feature but faded to a 12th place finish at the checkers. Earl the defending series champion has one win on the series in 2007 and is currently tied for 6th place in the series national points standings. Earl is trying to become the first dirt late model driver to win four consecutive national touring series championships in a row. He won the 2004 Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series Championship, the 2005 and 2006 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship and won the 2006 World 100 at the famous Eldora Speedway last year.
"We were descent in the feature but not quite good as we need to be right now. Were going try a different Mastersbilt chassis and try some different stuff to try and get back to winning more races again. I want to thank everyone involved with the Diamond Nationals that helped put that show on. It was a great event and the facility is just awesome. Hopefully next year they can keep the track from locking down and make it better for racing. But it was a great event all in all", stated Earl.
