The weather is getting warm and the smell of racing fuel and rubber has made its presence know in Daytona. That can only mean one thing. Racing season has begun!
In what is anticipated to be one of the largest dirt racing events of the entire year, Modoc Speedway will begin its season March 4th-5th with both Super Late Models and Crate (PRO) Late Models with the 3rd ANNUAL MODOC 100. Both classes will pay an astounding $5000 To Win! The event is much anticipated by fans, teams, and the press. Super Late Models have not competed at Modoc since 2005, a race in which Chris Madden took home the victory.
In 2009, traffic was backed up two miles down each side of the road leading into the speedway. The event produced a capacity crowd to say the least and was action packed with the FASTRAK PRO Late Model Series. This year’s running of the Modoc 100 will bring back the super late models sanctioned by the combo merger of the brand new SAS East/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series. The new series will allow more engine combinations monitored by various weight and spoiler packages. Many of the super late model and FASTRAK late model stars from across the United States, some as far away as Wisconsin and New York, are expected to be on hand for this prestigious event. Fans are encouraged to be there early as the event is once again expected to be standing room only. There are of course great trackside parking spaces for fans arriving early enough on both days. Camping is allowed, but there are no hook ups for RV’s.
“I can’t wait” said Brian Stewart of Modoc Speedway. “This event has always been huge with the FASTRAK Racing Series, but now adding the new ULTIMATE Super late model series is going to make it spectacular! The super late models haven’t been here in a long time and the phones are absolutely ringing off the hook. This is one event that race fans do not want to miss”.
No doubt this is a true race fan’s dream. With true double file restarts and some of the closest racing action in the country, this one will be talked about for many years to come. There will be fireworks, 4 wide salutes, drawings for pace truck rides and drawings for the chance to wave the green flag. Fans and teams need to go to the Modoc Speedway website to reserve rooms as some motels are already filling up.
There will be an open practice this weekend at the speedway.
