Woodstock, GA - The continued growth of “Crate Engine” Late Model participants in dirt racing has prompted officials at 6 tracks in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina to come together and organize the “Top Tracks” Southeastern Championship Series.
There will be six races at 6 tracks in October and November of 2005 that will offer $44,000 possible to win for the Crate Engine drivers. The first 5 events are one day shows, 40 or 50 laps depending on track, paying $2000 to win. The final event is a 2-day 50 lap show paying $4000 to win. There is a $25,000 Bonus for 6 wins out of 6 races and a $10,000 bonus for 5 wins out of 6 races, and a $5000 bonus for 4 wins out of 6 races, provided all events are competed as scheduled.
There will also be a $6000 points fund for the top 6 drivers in points for the Series along with a $600 loyalty performance bonus to the highest finishing driver at each event that attempted to qualify at the prior “Top Tracks” race. To be eligible for this bonus at the first race, drivers must pre-enter by calling Cleveland Speedway at 423-479-8574. Total posted awards exceed $100,000.
Event #1 is October 1 at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee followed by October 8 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina, October 15 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, October 22 at Oglethorpe Speedway Park (OSP) in Savannah, Georgia , October 29 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Charlotte, NC and will conclude November 11 & 12 at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA.
“We have been strong supporters of crate engines in the weekly programs since they first came availible. This program will offer the best of both worlds to all drivers in this category of competition. If a team is more interested in staying at it’s home track all season and doesn’t have a big budget to travel, this offers a chance to venture out at the end of the season to compete for a prestigious title with out having to miss out on track championship points and requires a minimal amount of touring expense. On the other hand this also fits the racer that has toured all season as well because the money is great and the tracks involved all have very good reputations for strong local competition. So it should be a win win situation for everyone including the fans who want to see some good racing for a reasonable admission price,” said Dixie General Manager and “Top Tracks” coordinator Mike Swims.
All promoters have agreed not to run the Crate Engine Late Model type class on the nights that other “Top Tracks” events are taking place. Therefore car counts should be strong at each track.
All events will be run under the basic generic “Crate” Late Model tech rules that are already in place in the region. These rules will be available on each track’s website in the near future. Information on tire rules, event formats, and whether the races are sanctioned or unsanctioned will all be at the discretion of each promoter and will also be on each track’s website
