KYLE MAY & ONE VOICE THANKS FANS AT FORT PAYNE!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Fort Payne, AL - Fan Appreciation Night was kicked off with a bang at Fort Payne Motor Speedway, Saturday night, as the contemporary Christian group "One Voice" put on a show just before the racing action began. The band sang for race fans as folks filed into their seats not long after the gates opened and the performance was nothing short of "awesome," as some fans were quoted saying afterwards. One Voice, a three person singing group, came from Hollywood Baptist Church in Rome, GA just for the show at Fort Payne and when everyone thought they had seen the best of them, they blew away the crowd with their rendition of the National Anthem.
When the Super-Limited Late Model Feature began Kyle May of Pisgah, AL's Sun Loan Company, Tubby's Pit Stop number 55 sat perched on the pole position with Virgil Taylor of Thorsby, AL in his ALT Transportation, Brown Engeneering number 44 on the outside front row.
On the start May got the advantage over Taylor until a caution came out and reset the field. This set a chain of events that would lead May to lap every car up to the fifth place finisher Mario Gresham of Rome, GA. At the finish of the event May had a comfortable lead over Robert Gant of Flat Rock, AL who finished second in his Carl Gregory Ford, White's Logging number 22. Third would go to Tony Brown of Dogtown, AL in the Brown's Dogtown Hardware, TNT Construction, Kieth Henderson Drywall number 19 with fourth going to Dee Vaught of Langston, AL in his Western Sizzlin of Scottsboro, Landston Qiuck Stop, Aflac, Jackson County Salvage, White Ammusement number 118.
"I'm pretty happy about it. I didn't have to good of a week last week. I had a bad run-in with a few other cars, but you can't ever tell what's going to happen from week to week. I stayed out of trouble this week with lap traffic and all, but I may be the one being lapped next week. I had fun either way," May said after the race. "I want to thank Sun Loan Company, Tubby's Pit Stop, my Momma and Daddy, and Kevin Hale. He owns the engine in this car and helps me out a lot. He's got a few of the wheels on this car too, but he ain't running right now so...he don't need them."
He then said, "I was just trying to stay out ahead of everyone and be smooth and mainly keep out of trouble."
The Crate Feature was won by Kasey Hall of Geraldine, AL in his unsponcered number 42 machine. Lucas Burns of Attalla, AL in his R&L Farms, Burns Brothers Implement number 27 got second with Landon Simms of Alexander, AL in third and Brady Burns of Piedmont, AL in his Burns Timber Company, Virgils Speed Shop number 12 car placed fourth. Fifth went to Ron Bozarth of Gurley, AL, who was racing at Fort Payne on his 17th wedding anniversary, in his Michael's Interior Trim, Custom Built Cabinets, KD Wood Company number 19.
Bozarth was involved in an incident with sixth place finisher DJ Hayes of Ider, AL that landed Bozarth on Hayes hood and during the comotion Mrs. Bozarth was quoted saying, "I gave up a nice dinner and movie for this! I could have had Red Lobster!"
In the A-Hobby race it was Lewis Rakestraw of Boaz, AL in his LA Rakestraw number 1 car who wound up victorious in the end. Scott Boyd of Chattanooga, TN in his Boyd Built Racecars, Brooks Race Engines number 77 got second with Corey Cresswell of Chattanooga, TN's number 12 landing in third putting Ricky Gresham of Rome, GA in fourth and Chad Stone of Section, AL in fifth.
In other action Brock Love of Hokes Bluff, AL won and put Eric Hamby of Rome, GA in second in the B-Hobby feature and Jerry Black of Blountsville, AL won the Pony race.
The next event at Fort Payne Motor Speedway will be on Monday, July 20th and will feature the Ray Cook promoted O'Reilly Auto Parts Southern National Series. It will be a Super Late Model Event that will see drivers from all over the country competing for $3500.00 to win and $350.00 to start and series points in a thirty-five lap feature race.
