Fort Payne, AL - The Father's Appreciation Night was a great success as the grandstands were packed Saturday night in anticipation of a great night of racing. And they did see a marvelous show from all the competitors at Fort Payne Motor Speedway with the biggest news coming from the May camp once again.
Kyle May of Pisgah, AL made yet another amazing showing during his qualifying run when he broke his own record once again. That lap was the first of two ran wide open around the top of the track and was clocked at 14.023, almost two tenths faster than the previous record.
When asked how it felt to know he was the fastest man at Fort Payne Motor
Speedway, May, with a smile from ear to ear said," It's good to do stuff like this but it's the feature wins that pay so we'll see where I end up at the end of the night. But at least I do get to rub it in to all my friends. A lot of my racing buddies are always giving it to me so now I will be able to give it back to them."
Ten cars started the Super-Limited Late Model feature with May and Tony
Brown of Dogtown, AL making up the front row. Lamar Scoggins of Cleveland, TN started third and the three front runners battled for position until Brown was unable to continue making way for Kenny Hall of Geraldine, AL to take the third spot and contend unsuccessfully with Scoggins for second. In the end May won the race with everyone except Scoggins a lap behind.
"It feels good! This is three in a row and four all together," May said after the race. "I want to thank Mom and Dad for putting me in such a good car. They are responsible for it all. They even give me a place to live. And I want to thank Tubby's Pit Stop, all these fans who came to see us and the race track for giving us a place to race. The track was good tonight, real smooth, a couple of dry spots in the turns but real fast."
Fourth place finisher Bryan Grider of Stevenson, AL reclaimed his ride in the thirty-nine car and edged out Chad Stone of Section, AL who ended up fifth at the end of the race.
In the Crate Late Model race it was Kasey Hall of Geraldine, AL who got his first win at Fort Payne Motor Speedway. Hall had momentum on his side with a win on Friday night and dotted the exclamation point by beating such drivers as pole setter Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA who ended up third, and Jarrod Greene of Rome, GA who took second.
It was a close race all the way to the half way point. Turner lead the field with Greene and Hall in tow. After a caution, Hall jumped along side Turner and they battled for the lead for two laps with Turner finally falling to the third position when Greene followed Hall by.
Kenny Brown of Fyffe, AL put his John 3:16 car in fourth with Lucas Burns of Attalla, AL rounding out the top five.
The Sportsman race was won by Shane Dutton of Sand Rock, AL after fifteen laps. Brady Burns of Piedmont, AL finished second and Dustin Hendrix of Dawsonville, GA got third.
In other action, the A-Hobby feature was won by Booger Brooks of Chattanooga, TN edging out Matthew Coffman of Stevenson, AL. Ray Philips of Gadsden, AL came from last place to finish third with Davey Arnold fourth. Jamie Ward of Scottsboro, AL finished fifth.
Danny Whitten of Gadsden, AL won the B-Hobby race with Bill Pate of Hammondsville, AL in second. Third went to Greg Loyd of Attalla, AL, fourth went to Allen Jolley of Chattanooga, TN and in fifth was Philip Arnold of Albertville, AL.
John Autwell of Mountain Boro, AL got his first ever win in the Pony feature when he put his number sixty-eight in the top spot. Jimmy Plumlee of Trenton, GA finished second. Lewis Nance of Shiloh, AL got third. Dylan Whitlock of Attala, AL ended up fourth and Caylas Daniels of Trenton, GA rounded out the top five.
