Dudley Dominates Tuesday Night Thunder
By: Justin Rickett
Phenix City, AL 6-16-2009 - With another win going to mother nature last Saturday the management at East Alabama Motor Speedway decided to hold racing at the track on Tuesday night, and what a great night of racing it was! Tuesday Night Thunder sponsored by Zaxby's with racing action in the Hobby, Limited Sportsman, and Late Model classes proved to be just what the fan ordered. Five dollar admission, dollar Hotdogs, and dollar beer a fan could not ask for a better deal and they showed their appreciation by packing the stands. Even with a shorter program there was no shortage of action on the track. In the Alabama Rock Late Model Division it was Montana Dudley who started the evening on the fast track by setting a time of 15.55 seconds to capture the Wimmer's Wrecker Service pole award for the night. Timing in with the second quickest time was Larry Harrod, with Chad Wallace rolling off third. When the green waved Montana Dudley wasted no time jumping out front. Harrod maintained second with Scott Knowles passing Wallace for third. Wallace whose car never seemed to come up to speed slowed on the track in turn 2 to bring out the first caution of the evening. After the cars were back in their proper order we were ready for the green. Just as he did on the start Dudley started to pull away from Harrod. With the laps winding down Harrod found himself having to hold off a hard charging Scott Knowles who was making the bottom grove work for him in turns 3 and 4. As the laps started to click away Dudley continued to pull away. With the checkers in the air Montana Dudley leading every lap took home the win. Larry Harrod was second, Scott Knowles Third, Bobby Eiland fourth and Travis Pennington rounding out the top five.
In the caution free 15 lap Limited Sportsman division race it was Joey Eiland taking the lead early and holding off Thomas Lewis to win the nights event. Lewis started on the pole with Eiland on his outside. When the green waved Lewis jumped out front in turns 1 and 2, but it was Eiland who powered past him on the outside of 3 and 4 to lead the first lap. Lewis would try several times to wrestle it away form Eiland by running the low line but he just couldn't make it stick. With the checkered flag waving it was Joey Eiland picking up another win. Thomas Lewis held on for second with Roger Arnett third and Steven Gaines Jr. rounding out the top five.
In the Hobby division it was Jason Craft picking up his second win in a row and holding off John Michael to do so. Craft, who started on the pole, jumped out to an early lead with Randy Renfroe following close behind in second. Renfroe looked to have a stronger car than Craft and on lap 3 he was about to complete the pass for the lead when suddenly his car slowed on the back stretch and he was forced to pull behind the wall. Renfroe's loss was John Michaels gain as he now inherited the second position and set his sights on Craft. As the race was nearing completion the battle for the lead was heating up. Michael had caught Craft and he was trying to make the pass down low in turn 4 every lap. In the end Craft's car proved to be too strong for Michaels and Jason Craft would hold on the win. John Michael was second with Randy Allen third, Jason Anthony fourth and Curtis Haney rounding out the top five.
Be sure to come out this Saturday night for the USCS Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars and a full racing program. Pit Gates open at 3:30 with the grand stands opening at 5pm EST. We hope to see you there!
