FORT PAYNE, AL - After slipping up into the marbles during qualifying Kyle May of Pisgah, AL was able to salvage an outside front row seat in the Super-Limited Late Model feature Saturday night just outside the pole setter Douglas Stewart, who races out of Talladega, AL. Stewart qualified a blazing fast 14.240 to get the lead position for the start of the race but it turned out to be short lived because May got his self sponsored limited late model to turn one first and never looked back.
It was a close race between the top three finishers until Brandon Roberts of Oxford, AL and Stewart started racing side by side for the second spot. May was extending a considerable lead as they fought for the position and wound up lapping everyone up to the fourth place finisher Chris Beck of Cedar Bluff, AL.
In the end it was Kyle May in front with Roberts in second, Stewart in third, Beck in fourth and Dustin Stewart of Eastaboga, AL rounding out the top five.
After the race May said, "I just want to thank my Mom and Dad. They put me in the best car we could get. I couldn't ask for any better handling."
In the Crate Late Model Race it was Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, GA who carried the checkers edging out fourth place qualifier Jarrod Greene of Rome, Ga. In third was Craig Burrows of Chickamauga, GA and fourth went to Lucas Burns of Attalla, AL. The fifth position was held by Kenny Brown of Fyfe, AL who had been as high as second place early in the race but fell to fifth by the end.
The Sportsman race was dominated by Shane Dutton of Sand Rock, AL after starting third in the ten lap dash. Dustin Hendrix of Dawsonville, GA finished second and put Brady Burns of Piedmont, AL at the tail of the field in third.
A-Hobby driver Todd Hernandez won his feature after twenty five laps of fierce competition with second place finisher Gary Johnson of Chattanooga, TN. Jeff Chumley of Attalla, AL ended up third with Matthew Coffman of Stevenson, AL in fourth putting rookie driver Bobby Tarlton of Talapoosa, GA in fifth.
Danny Whitton of Gadsden, AL won the B-Hobby feature with Keenan Walker of Boaz, AL finishing second, his career best at Fort Payne Motor Speedway. Bill Pate of Hammonville, AL got third with Philip Arnold of Boaz, AL in fourth and Logan Howell of Gadsden, AL in fifth.
The Pony race saw Jerry Black of Blountsville, AL win from the outside pole position. Marty Gas of Trenton, GA wound up with second after Jamie Ward of Scottsboro, AL was found wrong in post race tech. Lee Adams of Boaz, AL who started twelvth got third with Robert Knight of Cedar Bluff, AL in fourth. Fifth went to Donald Daniels of Trenton, GA.
There were three contenders for the Spectator Race Championship. A Mitsubishi wagon, a Chevy Z-71 truck and a Chevy Malibu all tryed to win but it was the Malibu who emerged victorious. We will be having spectator races each week so bring yours and compete for the $50.00 top prize! (Must be a street legal automobile. It must have working seat belts and you must wear a helmet.)
The July 4th Crate race has been changed to the Fire Cracker 40 lap Super-Limited Late Model Championship Race. It pays $3000.00 to win and $300.00 to start.
The next event at Fort Payne Motor Speedway will be Saturday, June 20th and will be our Father's Appreciation night. Fathers will get in for only $5.00 general admission.
