Disqualification of LA Rakestraw car #1 at Fort Payne raceway on 4|18|09 was a confrence between car owner and track owner . Not the car. the track sugested 325 lbs weight added to car thet would bring the car to 3200 lbs. I don't think this is a fair shake!!!!

I believe this 3200# idea was only a joke, a way of complimenting the driver for winning 3 weeks in a row. But the driver showed a little too much of a temper if you ask me.

I'm not sure its too much of a joke. The finishing results have him listed as a DQ. Somebody was serious unless after the lights were turned off they gave him 1st place money. Dan

not a very funny joke if you ask me! 325lb is a stiff penalty and i believe i would be a little upset too. its not like lewis has ever been accused of cheating. he is one of the most honest racers out there.

Talking to the track personell, I heard that it was never meant to be a serious statement in the first place. Weight penalties would be addressed at 100# at a time, not 325#. It was more a comment on how bad he beat the rest of the field. As far as the DQ was concerned, I believe that was more a result of the show the #1 car put on after leaving the scales.

Marvin also said later he was "joking" when he told me last year "you can just load your car and leave and never come back" if i didnt like the fact he wasnt going to enforce his rule book by letting a modified pony run with the pure ponies
i can see where u might need to add weight in the "interest of competition" but you should have this conversation with the driver some time other than right after he comes off the track so it could be discussed calmly

Good point Car13 i agree. But at the same time, we are all adults, and should be able to control our tempers, don't you think?

Lewis got screwed, bottom line. The track owes him a win and the money for it. The track may be trying to play it off as a joke now, but two people know what was said. Lewis and Marvin, and it is obvious that Lewis didn't think it was a joke. I've had very little contact with Marvin but even I know he'll make something up at the drop of a hat.
As far as temperament goes. I'm sure dealing with race car drivers can be very stressful, and I can only speak from personal experience. But Marvin seems to have the shortest fuse of anyone I've ever met. Even the most benign question can be turned into a perceived slight at an astonishing speed. Like I said, I've only had limited contact with Marvin. Three conversations where he and I were the primary participants, twice he grew angry early and lied to me. Maybe I just caught him on a bad night those two times, but a first impression is what it is.
If the track thinks Lewis is cheating they should tear him down, if he is found to be legal they should pay him the normal protest money then discuss adding weight in 25# increments until parity is reached. If he is illegal, great you've proven your point.
