FORT PAYNE, AL - Robert Stutts of Murfreesboro, TN made it three wins in a row at Fort
Payne Motor Speedway in the Super Late Model feature on Saturday night in front of a full house. Stutts jostled back and forth for the lead early in the race with pole setter Gar Dickson of Flintstone, GA, who set the fast time in qualifying and earned the Tubby's Pit Stop fast qualifier award.
Dickson finally was conquered and Stutts extended his lead while Robert Gant of Flat Rock, AL made his way through the field to wind up in a close second.
"I love this place! The track just keeps getting better and better,"
Stutts said in a post race interview. "I just tried to keep the car straight and not mess up because I knew that Gant was right there."
Gant finished in the second position after twenty-five laps of competition with Mike Bruner in third, Lee Sutton in fourth and Dickson rounded out the top five.
The night was filled with excellent side-by-side racing action. In the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models it was Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA who emerged victorious after winning his heat race and starting inside front row for the feature. Denny Slayton finished second followed by Chad Green, Dustin Hendrix, and Haley Pitts in the top five.
In other action it was Johnny Bell with the fastest automobile in the A-Hobby race. Steve Tate and Greg Thompson were racing for second on the last lap with Tate getting the advantage off turn four and beating Thompson to the finish. However, it was found out later that Tate was
running light and was disqualified at the scales moving Kirk Adkins into the third spot with Matthew Coffman in fourth and Crawford Watkins moved into the fifth spot.
In the B-Hobby feature Davey Arnold made it five in a row and was followed closely by Jess Washington and Scot Wright. Jimmy Plumlee outran Marty Gass and Jeff Phillips to win the Pony Stock feature race.
The next event at Fort Payne Motor Speedway will be Saturday night, September 6 with Super Late Models, NeSmith Chevrolet Late Models, A Hobby Stocks, B Hobby Stocks, and Pony Stocks.
