Tire Rule In Pure Pony

this is the tire rule that has been in the rule book since the first of the year and is still there @10:55 pm on 5-26

Tires & Wheels:
1. Steel wheels only (max. 8” width)(13 or 14 )
2. Street tires only, D.O.T. radial tires only, maximum nine (9) inch tread width.
3. No type of racing tire with D.O.T. stamp. No recaps.
4. No bead locks
5. No cutting, grooving or altering factory tread in any manner

Sat nite i asked Tim if this was the rule and he confirmed that it was and he said that no racing tires of any kind were allowed in this class.

The reason i went to him and asked was because it was told to me that the rule had been changed and we were allowed to run a *special Goodyear track tire*. Within 30 minutes of asking him he asked Dennis about this and was told that yes the rule had been changed to allow anyone who bought the remaining Goodyear 13" racing tires that the track had for sale that they would be allowed to run them in this class. I personally talked to Dennis about this issue and he said he did this because Goodyear would not take the tires back.

My question is how is this fair to all the racers in this class if the only people who can run this tire are the ones who were able to buy the remaining tires the track had for sale. The only people who seem to benefit from this rule change are the ones who were able to get the remaining tires or able to buy some used ones from someone else and the track because now they have sold the tires they couldnt sale for the last year.

hee hee hee,if you ran on the good years then you would know they kinda SUCKED!I bought a set last year and Alan ran on them a few races.He HATED them with a passion.They did NOT grip and blistered after 1 race.So,Technically,the goodyears was a self issued Penalty!

yea but im not so sure there worse than a street tire. i think car 13 has a legit argument. it would be different if there was enough for everybody. id like to see alot of pure ponies running those tires. should make for good racin.

i have heard the same things about the Goodyears on the Mod Ponies and i'm sure that is why the track was unable to sell the ones they had

but they will probably give someone an advantage over the cars running street tires..... i think we have been having some pretty good racing in this class all year

my MAIN problem with this issue is the fact the rule was changed (without making Tim aware of the change....bet that made him feel good to know he wasn't even told) and the REASON it was changed ( so the track could sell some tires it couldnt get rid of)

if they want to be fair then allow ANY 8" racing tire ( have quite a few 8" Hoosiers in the shed) but i personally think they should stick to the rules they started the year with and that we have always been told wouldnt be changed.

Dennis reminded me that the rule book states that they reserve the right to change the rules in the *interest of competition* but this had nothing to do with anything other than selling some tires that the track was stuck with

Yea,I will have to agree with all the arguments here.I was being a little sarcastic towards teh goodyears.But any racing tire is an advantage over street tires.Maybe a weight penalty for running them?

Those tires (if thats what you call em) SUCK for racing period. Not to say that Dennis was wrong for trying to get his money back, that was a good idea for him, but the fact remains is that those tires are worse than street tires. I dont see it that big of a deal. The bad here is Goodyear not taking the tires back in the first place. Definately not a good PR move on their part.

Those Goodyear tires have been available to all who wanted them for the past year. Only when I marked them down did they finally get bought. When those few tires are used up there will be no more and you will not be able to use them anymore. Car13 all I can say is you snooze you loose, but if it weren't this it would be something else, it always is. Im not suire I can ever make you happy, but I will keep trying.

Dennis--- The rule book has not said ANYTHING about those tires being legal and still does not. When i went and asked Tim sat nite if they were legal and he told me they weren't if he had been able to give me the correct infomation then i could have went right around to the other side of the bulding and did the same thing as someone else did....... buy all the ones that were left.

But since the rule book stated that no racing tires were allowed and the techman told me that yes the rule book was right why would i buy tires i couldnt run in this class.
