???Why are Crate drivers invading Sportsman class @ TST? Sure does seem odd that some Crate drivers are coming to Sportsman..It is only rumor but is there any truth that at least one of these drivers was disqualified at least twice entering Crate race at some other track(s)?..Could it be something the officials @ TST need to check on or revise allowing Crate motors to run with Sportsman. After all, they have their own class.

I can see your point as well as the racers point. the sportsman class pays more money plus you dont have to pay the membership fees. but the reason crates are doing well is because of the weight break and spoiler rule. same as supers being able to run spec engines and getting the same weight break and spoiler rules. i think it is fair with the rules but its not my track so its not up to me.

Does anyone know if TST made a ruling on rule change for Sportsman? I heard they were going to take weight break away from Crates when running in Sportsman. In my opinion, it's not enough but at least it is a start if this is so. I feel they should also make same tear down fee as Crate car in Sportsman class. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

The crates weren't invading sportsman. Its pretty simple - there was a rule that allows the 604 CRATE engine to run in the sportsman class at 2200 pounds. They had a $1500 to win race the next week scheduled, and those guys simply took there lead off to see how different the car was without the weight. I had already run my car without the lead late last year ,otherwise I would have done it to. Then the race was canceled, so they are all back in crate, the ones that ran with them. 17 car has run sportsman all year when he's there.
Now the crate 604 doesnt get the weight break, you must weigh 2350 in sportsman, and guess what the 17 still smoked them. If people would work on their car they could beat him. Instead they'd rather whine about something.
If your asking why would you buy a crate to run in sportsman- thats simple too. Top of the line Sportsman motor will run you $15,000, a 604 crate $5095 - now which would you buy?
I know for a fact that there are 3 or 4 others in sportsman with crates. Now if anybody needs a good sportsman motor, I have one I'll sell for $6000 - 0 races since freshened.
