CONCORD, NC - May 29, 2007 -
WHAT:
* The World of Outlaws Late Model Series makes its second visit to the Mid-Atlantic region of 2007, contesting the 'First State 50' on Thursday night (May 31) at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., and the 26th annual 'Conococheague 50' at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday night (June 2).
Both events will pay $10,000 to win from total purses of nearly $50,000.
WHEN:
* Delaware International Speedway's gates are scheduled to open at 4 p.m. on Thursday, with hot laps set for 7 p.m.
* Hagerstown Speedway's pit gates will open on Saturday at 4 p.m. and the spectator gates will be unlocked at 5 p.m. On-track action is set to begin at 7 p.m.
WHERE:
* Delaware International Speedway is a semi-banked, half-mile clay oval owned by Charlie Cathell, whose family has operated a racing complex on the track's current site since 1963. It is located on U.S. Route 13, one mile north of the Delaware/Maryland border.
* Hagerstown Speedway is a well-known semi-banked, half-mile clay oval owned by veteran promoter Frank Plessinger. The track sits just south of the Mason-Dixon Line, 5.3 miles west of Interstate 81 Exit 6-B.
TICKETS:
* General admission tickets for DIS's 'First State 50' are $26 for adults and $5 for children 7-13, and reserved seats are also available. Pit passes are $35 for adults and $10 for children 7-13.
* General admission for Hagerstown's 'Conococheague 50' is $30, with children 12 and under admitted free. Reserved seats are $35, and pit passes are also $35.
MORE INFORMATION:
* For more information on the Delaware International Speedway event, visit www.delawareracing.com or call 302-875-1911.
* For more information on the Hagerstown Speedway program, visit www.hagerstownspeedway.com or call 301-582-0640.
PREVIOUS WoO LMS WINNERS:
* Delaware International Speedway will host the WoO LMS for the third time. Scott Bloomquist was victorious on July 21, 2004, and Darrell Lanigan triumphed on July 6, 2005.
* Hagerstown Speedway has hosted the WoO LMS a total of seven times, including twice during the tour's first incarnation (1988-89) and five times since its resumption in 2004. Victors of the events include Les Hare (April 24, 1988), Gary Stuhler (May 7, 1989), Rick Eckert (April 24, 2004, and July 24, 2004), Tim McCreadie (July 8, 2005, and July 9, 2005) and Clint Smith (Aug. 5, 2006).
POINTS BATTLE:
* The red-hot WoO LMS points race will continue during the two-race swing. Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., who has never raced at Delaware International or Hagerstown, leads the standings by a mere six points over Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., and well within striking distance are Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky. (-26 points), Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va. (-36), Rick Eckert of York, Pa. (-48) and Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa. (-48).
NEW ARRIVIAL:
* Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C. - a talented southerner chasing the WoO LMS for the first time - welcomed a new addition to his family last Thursday. His wife, Stephanie, gave birth to the couple's third child, a son named Avery.
The baby was born one month premature, necessitating a longer post-delivery hospital stay and thus putting Madden's participation in the Delaware/Hagerstown doubleheader in doubt. But Madden told WoO LMS officials on Tuesday that because his boy is doing well and should be going home soon, he said it's possible he will enter both WoO LMS events if he can prepare his equipment in time.
CHAMP IS BACK:
* After doing some NASCAR stock-car testing in Kentucky on Tuesday, reigning WoO LMS champion Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., plans to return to the dirt-track wars this weekend. He'll drive his Sweeteners Plus No. 39 in both the Delaware International and Hagerstown events.
McCreadie, 33, is competing in selected WoO LMS events this season around his busy schedule as a Richard Childress Racing development driver.
NASCAR INVADER:
* With the spring NASCAR weekend at Dover International Speedway kicking off Thursday just 45 minutes north of Delaware International Speedway, NASCAR Nextel Cup veteran Kenny Schrader plans to fill his need for dirt-track racing by competing in the WoO LMS 'First State 50.' The possible participation of other Nextel Cup racers with dirt Late Model ties is pending.
* A strong group of local stars is expected to challenge the WoO LMS brigade.
There will be several locals to watch at Delaware International, including Ricky Elliott, the Pettyjohns (Kenny, David and Mark), David Hill and Donald Lingo Jr.
Hagerstown's drivers to keep an eye on include Gary Stuhler (a three-time winner at the track already this season), Bo Feathers (who won the track's last Late Model feature), Nathan Durboraw, Andy Anderson, Roy Deese Jr. and Frankie Plessinger.
Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, Pa., who was the Northeast's winningest dirt Late Model driver in 2007, has both events on his schedule, while Steve Shaver of Vienna, W.Va., is expected at Hagerstown.
EXTRA CASH:
* The influx of regional and local standouts who compete in the two programs will have some extra cash to chase in both events.
In each A-Main, the highest-finishing driver who is not ranked among the current top-12 in the WoO LMS point standings and has never won a WoO feature will receive a $500 'Bonus Bucks' award.
LISTEN ON THE INTERNET:
* The DIRT Radio Network will offer a live internet audio broadcast of both events.

WoO LMS ON TELEVISION:

World of Outlaws Sprint car action, meanwhile, will be televised a total of 20 times this year on SPEED and ESPN2. The next event - featuring coverage of the recent program at Pennsylvania's Williams Grove Speedway - is scheduled for this Sunday (June 3) at 1 p.m. ET.
