StormPay.com DLMS Alabama Doubleheader This Weekend

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series will begin the second half of the 2007 season this weekend with an Alabama Doubleheader. Round 13 will be this Friday night with a $2,500-to-win event at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, and Round 14 will be Saturday night with a $3,000-to-win race at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.
A tight point battle for the StormPay.com DLMS National Championship will highlight both nights of racing, and the fight to find a cure of cancer will take place on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway with the StormPay.com DLMS “Ride for Life” two-seater dirt late model to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Frank Ingram of Woodstock, GA leads the defending StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN by 42 points coming into this weekend’s action. Ingram, with 1066 points, has two wins on the season with eight top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 12 starts.
Gentry, with 1024 points, has one win, six top fives, nine top tens, and one fast time honor in 12 starts. Gentry won the StormPay.com DLMS National touring event last year at Penton Raceway. “Lewisburg Lightning” has also completed the most laps of competition this season, finishing 538 of a possible 570 laps of green flag racing.
Jay Blair of Angie, LA has one less start than Ingram and Gentry, but is third in the StormPay.com DLMS National points with 1002 points, one win, eight top fives, 10 top tens, and one fast time. The “Angie Assassin” would be the point leader had he started the first race of the season.
Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA is fourth with 990 points, and despite being winless in the first 12 races of the season, is still a championship contender. Rainey has eight top five finishes. Another title contender is also the top candidate for the StormPay.com Rookie of the Year crown.
Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA is fifth overall in the StormPay.com DLMS points chase, and the top Rookie driver after the first half of the season. Brindle has 944 points with two wins, three top five finishes, eight top ten finishes, and two pole awards.
Drivers holding the sixth through 11th spots that are also expected to compete at both events this weekend include Chris Tays of Corinth, MS, Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA, RoY candidate Robert Stutts of Murfreesboro, TN, NeSmith Chevrolet Hard Charger point leader Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, RoY candidate Jim Till of Greenville, AL, and Rusty Hoge of Ooltewah, TN.
Other drivers expected include Curtis Cline of Douglasville, GA, Bill Flowers of Bremen, GA, and William Thomas of Phenix City, AL. Three other local favorites are regular competitors in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series East Region.
The top two drivers in the StormPay.com WRS East Region, Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL and Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA, are expected at both events, plus Richard Stephens Jr. of Phenix City, AL who has won three straight StormPay.com WRS East Region events at Penton Raceway.
The fans in the stands will also get a chance to experience the thrill of high-speed action on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway, and at the same time, give to a very worthy cause.
