Justin Rattliff Conquers LaSalle For Biggest Career Win!
(CAMPBELLSVILLE, KENTUCKY) Justin Rattliff picked up his biggest feature
victory of his young racing career on Saturday evening, May 19 at the
LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois! After qualifying well in Lucas Oil
Late Model Dirt Series time trials, Justin ran a great heat race to take the
win over Jimmy Mars, Scott James, and Dan Schlieper. The young
Campbellsville, Kentucky native then drew a number two prior to the running
of the 50-lap feature event, which meant that he would roll off from the
outside of the front row for the $10,000 to win race.
Polesitter Don O'Neal grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and
Justin battled fiercely for the second position. He then challenged O'Neal
for the point and took the lead on lap twenty-eight. The driver known as
the "Rattler" led the final twenty-two circuits to record the $10,000 payday
ahead of O'Neal, Rick Eckert, Jimmy Mars, and Brian Birkhofer. The victory
moved Justin up to eleventh in the latest version of the Lucas Oil Late
Model Dirt Series point standings and elevated him to the lead in the heated
Rookie of the Year battle. You can view complete results from the LaSalle
event online at www.lucasdirt.com!
"It is an unbelievable feeling to win a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
event," commented Rattliff following the big win on Saturday evening. "The
track took rubber on the bottom and Don (O'Neal) must have not found it
right away and we were able to get by him. Once I got out front, I just had
to make sure I stayed calmed down because there were a lot of good cars
right behind me. I just have to thank my dad (James), Jeff Gullett, all of
my family and crew, and of course all of my great sponsors for all of their
support!"
Earlier in the weekend, Justin was in action at the Farley Speedway in
Farley, Iowa on Friday night, May 18. He finished third in his heat race to
earn the eleventh starting spot for the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model
Dirt Series feature event. After the end of fifty green flag racing laps,
Justin was credited with a solid tenth place performance. Prior to both
Farley and LaSalle, Justin and his #16 team invaded the Brownstown Speedway
in Brownstown, Indiana on Wednesday, May 16 for a World of Outlaws Late
Model Series show. Justin was slated to roll off third for the $10,000 to
win A-Main, but allegedly was late to driver introductions and was sent to
the tail of the field. He wound up twenty-third in the final rundown of the
50-lapper at Brownstown last Wednesday.
The Justin Rattliff Racing team is gearing up for a plethora of events that
they will enter over the next couple of weeks. After a pair of local shows
this weekend, the grueling Kentucky Speedweeks schedule will start on
Sunday, May 27 at the Portsmouth (OH) Raceway Park. Justin plans to compete
in the entire mini-series, which will conclude on Saturday, June 2 at the
Florence (KY) Speedway. Below is Justin's tentative upcoming schedule for
