Rod Conley Tames Rocky Top for Second A-Main Win of '07!
(WHEELERSBURG, OHIO) The Conley Motorsports, Inc. team was out in full
force at the Rocky Top Raceway in Coal Grove, Ohio on Friday evening, May
18, as Delmas, Rod, and R.J. Conley were all in action. Rod captured his
second feature event of the young 2007 racing season on Friday and picked up
$2,000 for his efforts. The driver known as "Hot Rod" qualified well and
finished second in the dash prior to taking the win in the 30-lap A-Main.
Rod was able to get by Josh McGuire on the outside late in the running of
the feature event to record the victory!
R.J. looked poised to win the race after leading the first twenty circuits
from the pole position. However, the Wheelersburg, Ohio native
unfortunately struck a lapped car that had spun on the front stretch in
front of him. The incident took R.J. out of contention and relegated him to
a very disappointing eighteenth place finish. Delmas won his heat race at
Rocky Top on Friday, but was also involved in a wreck during the running of
the A-Main. The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer wound up sixteenth in the
final rundown of the race after starting from the seventh position.
On Saturday, May 19, Delmas and Rod headed to the K-C Raceway in
Chillicothe, Ohio, while R.J. invaded the Portsmouth Raceway Park in
Portsmouth, Ohio for their season opening event. Delmas ultimately ran
second to winner Mark Frazier at K-C on Saturday evening and Rod was hot on
his dad's heels in third. R.J. was fourth quickest in qualifying at PRP and
finished second in the dash to earn the outside pole position for the $2,000
to win A-Main. His evening was very eventful, as servo problems from the
wreck the night prior severely hampered the handling of his #71c machine.
Unfortunately for R.J., a last corner tangle prevented him from finishing
inside of the top ten.
