GEORGIA SHORT TRACK RACING Aug. 21 - 27
With Bristol’s NASCAR Bristol shootout on TV Friday and Sat., local racing is slow this week.
Next year: Just announced: the World of Outlaws winged sprint cars will be at Dixie Sat., Mar. 31, 2007.
Last week:
Toccoa: Jeff Smith won the Carolina Clash super late model dirt series and $4,000. Jonathan Davenport was second.
Talladega Short Track: veteran Ronnie Johnson, of Chattanooga, won the Southern All-Stars Mike Head Memorial and $5400. Point leader Chris Madden was second.
North Georgia: Southern All-Stars point leader Chris Madden won the $5,000 to win 50-lapper, over national traveling stars Dale McDowell (2nd), Chub Frank (3rd), and Clint Smith (6th).
Johnny Chastain won the Tenn. Thunder 50-lapper at Sugar Creek Friday night. David Payne was second, and Shane Tankersley was third after starting in the 10th row.
David Gentry won $2,700 in the 40-lap crate motor late model race at Penton Raceway (near LaGrange) Friday night. Rookie Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA, was second, and Ricky Williams of Fayetteville was third.
In the World of Outlaws late model race at Lake Ozark, MO,
Clint Smith’s back-up car was driven by his chief mechanic Johnny Cloer Jr., and he finished two spots ahead of Smith. Shane Clanton’s backup was driven by mechanic Shane Thompson, in the race. In WOO points, Smith is 9th and Clanton is 5th.
Fri., Aug. 25
Atlanta Motor Speedway: Friday night dragracing on pit road. Import, domestic, and pro classes. $20 to race. $7 adm.
