STEVE SEAGRAVES CLAIMS “HALF MILE” CRATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ROME SPEEDWAY
Rome, GA (October 2, 2005) – Steve Seagraves set the tone from the start of the race leading all forty-laps and holding off some stiff competition for the win and the $1,500 payday in the “Half-Mile” Crate Championships at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA on Sunday Night.
Ronnie Johnson worked the track from the top to the bottom to move up from his fifteenth place starting spot to put pressure on Seagraves, but could never manage to slip around and Johnson would have to settle for a second place finish.
Tim Day rallied from an eleventh place starting position to claim the third position with Billy Thompson fourth and David Beam rounding out the top five.
In the Bomber Championship, Keith Morton led the first laps, lost the lead in the middle of the race, and re-gained it late for the win. Troy Dixon finished in the second position with Tim Ford third. Keith Johnson finished fourth with Rusty Johnson rounding out the top five.
In the Pony Stock Invitational, Brice Lovitt picked up the win over Guy Bannister who was second and Billy Wigley third. Aubrey Merritt finished in the fourth position with John Atchison fifth.
The always wild and crazy Two-Person Cruiser class went flag-to-flag for fifteen laps, and after the dust settled it was Dan Roberts on top over Joe Trantham second and Michael Dempsey third. Fourth position went to Ricky Floyd with Jesse Peters rounding out the top five.
