BILLY OGLE JR. TAKES ADVANCE THUNDER SERIES WIN AT ROME INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY
Rome, GA (June 10, 2007) – Billy Ogle Jr. inherited the lead on lap thirty-seven and led the final thirteen laps to take the win in the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series sanctioned event at Rome International Speedway in Rome, GA on Sunday Night.
Rodney Martin jumped to the lead early of the fifty-lap feature event over Randy Weaver who slid behind Martin at the start.
Weaver would waste little time challenging for the lead and making a move to claim the top spot on lap three.
Weaver would then set the cruise control for the next several circuits while the field behind him would scatter out two, three and yes even four-wide.
Jake Knowles from his fourteenth place starting spot would be the one to watch as Knowles had the car hooked up off the top of the speedway and moved into the top five by lap ten.
A caution stretch through the middle of the race would see some top running machines suffer problems.
Lap twenty-one would see early race leader Martin suffer problems, forcing him from the event.
Four laps later, Ronnie Johnson would come to a stop with problems, forcing him out of the race, and then two laps later another caution would fly this time for Ricky Williams.
On the lap twenty-seven restart, Weaver would sit out front of the Delaware double file restart with Todd Morrow and Jake Knowles right behind.
Weaver would jump out with Knowles using the top to get by Morrow and then start putting the pressure on Weaver for the lead.
Knowles would use the top side coming off of turn four to finally claim the top spot on lap thirty pushing Weaver to second with Morrow third and Ogle fourth.
Lap thirty-six is where the reflection of the race changed. A spin by third place runner Todd Morrow would retire him from the event.
Next would be second place runner Weaver who would pull into the infield under caution.
And finally leader Jake Knowles stopped on the backstretch with a broken driveshaft.
This would give the lead to Ogle for the first time.
Ogle would lead the final thirteen laps of the event to claim the win and the $3,000 payday.
Tim Day would rally for a second place finish with Tommy Kerr in third. Fourth spot went to Gary McPherson with Ivedent Lloyd Jr. rounding out the top five.
In other Rome Speedway action, Jason Smith used a last corner pass to pick up the win in Limited Late Model action over Oliver Gentry in second and Sam Simmons third.
Jerry Fowler picked up the win in Sportsman action over Dale Thurman in second and Chris Fennell in third.
David Beam picked up the first victory of the night winning the fifteen lap Econo Bomber feature over Daniel Brewer second and Richard Powell third.
Robert Combs picked up the exciting and cautionless cruiser feature event over Pat Wayno second and Andy Greeson Third.
Rome International Speedway is back in action on Sunday July 1st featuring a Late Model double-header.
The Top Tracks Challenge Series will invade for the second time this season in a thirty-lap $1,500 to win main event. Also racing will be the Super Late Models and all other Rome divisions. There will also be an exciting fireworks display as always.
