Clint Smith Takes Victory
(June 13th) – Clint Smith of Senoia took advantage of the rare weekend that He is not traveling with the World of Outlaw Late Model Series to stay close to home and race at Dixie Speedway. Smith took the lead at the start of the feature and was never challenged leading all thirty laps of the Super Late Model feature. The race behind Smith was a different story. The cars of Jody Knowles, Tony Knowles, and Ricky Williams raced each other for second, third, and fourth positions making it an exciting race for Ronnie Dobbins, who sponsors all three cars. At the checkered flag Jake Knowles was second followed by Tony Knowles in third and Williams in fourth. Tracy Watson rounded out the top five.
In the Limited Late Model division, Oliver Gentry took home the home the win. Mike McConnell tried to challenge Gentry but settled for second. Bobby Tucker made his presence known as he climbed his way up from ninth to challenge the two leaders. Tucker came through holding third, while Jason Smith and Michael Page completed the top five.
Alan Brewer of Avondale Estates took his second Crate Late Model victory of 2009 holding off the very strong car of Jimmy Long. Long followed in second as Doug Stevens drove home third, followed by Chuck Padgett and Mark Sims.
Super Bombers saw Chris Sizemore take the win for the second week in a row. Tony McDowell took the lead at the start and held off the hard charging Sizemore for several laps before losing the lead. Greg Ledford made the pass for second with McDowell holding on to a third place finish. Tom Cleghorn raced from the scratch position to get a fourth place finish followed by Roy Patterson in fifth.
2008 Economy Bomber Champion Justin Shipley won his first feature of the season Saturday. Shipley chased down the strong racer of John Binger and passed for the lead on the white flag lap. Binger finished second. Johnny Morrison clawed his way back to finish third after having to go to the rear of the field after an early race spin. Cody Richards and Daniel Brewer rounded out the top five.
Ross Baines of Rockmart got his third win in a row in the Pony Stock division. Benton Morris was second. Jeremy Ray, Clint Leatherwood, and Andy Morris completed the top five.
In Cruisers the team of Scott Cleaver and Clay Kramer in took the win. Ken Ledford took the Spectator victory.
Dixie Speedway will host a full racing program and demolition derby this Saturday night, June 20 at 7:30 PM. Adult grandstand admission is just $10 with 9 – 17 years old $6 and children 8 years old and under are free.
