Green Valley Speedway Switches To Friday Nights In 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GREEN VALLEY SPEEDWAY MAKES SWITCH TO FRIDAY NIGHTS Glencoe, AL (January 19, 2009) – GVS owner Dennis Harker made several announcements today regarding his re-furbished Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, AL. First announced is that he will be switching nights to Friday Night stock car racing and Saturday Night Go-Kart races. Also announced was that Mr. Harker and Lynn Phillips from the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL will work together this season with several cross promotions giving a great Friday – Saturday, One-Two punch for Alabama dirt racing. Finally it was also announced that the “Voiceman” Perry Holman will be heading to GVS to call all the stock car action on Friday Nights before returning to TST to call the action there on Saturday Nights. “It’s an honor for me to be working with Mr. Phillips and the crew at Talladega Short Track,” stated GVS owner Dennis Harker. “This is good for the racing community and both tracks. I look forward to the 2009 racing season for both stock cars and go-karts.” Promotional ties concerning certain events at both tracks are in the works and should be released soon. “We are really happy to be working with Mr. Harker and his staff at GVS this season” stated TST owner Lynn Phillips. “It’s great for the racers and fans to have the opportunity to race two nights just 30 minutes apart.” The 2009 GVS schedule is being finalized and should be released soon. For more information regarding Green Valley Speedway you can visit the tracks official website at www.greenvalleyspeedway.com.

Good to hear that GVS is running Fri. night stock cars and Sat. night karts. Smart decision on GVS's part. Should mean a lot of good racing for 2009 and better kart counts.

man the worst possible thing has happened to gv and that is lynn phillips getting involved and them changing scedules...i give it two weeks that or I'm glad Dennis has tons of money and don't need any because gv will go under car count wise, ya ll just exploded fort paynes business!!! but maybe there is some good in all this and that is Dennis will see people are out to hurt gv and not help it and those giving him guidance on that are out to make more money from those other tracks, if Perry Holman liked gv he would have never left and if Lynn Phillipp's liked gv her wouldn't own Talladega! it just drives the dagger alot deeper in the hearts of all us locals and says to us that Mr.harker doesn't need our business but needs the business of Talladega drivers this might be a little harsh but i can t wait to see how this turns out

5racefan, it seems like you hope for GVS to go out of business every time GVS does something you dont like. If you cant make it on Friday nights go some where else. GVS has to do what they think is best for their big picture. Friday nights will be a good thing for GVS and for all of the people who would like to run two nights a week. There are some of us that wont race two nights a week but this will give us two opportunities to race per week instead of one. No body has mentioned the Kart track in these dicscussions, I think it will be alot better for the kids to race on Sat. nights instead of going to school and getting home just in time to go race. If you cant make it on Fri. nights get a Kart. Kart racing is just as fun and alot more affordable.

i have a qeustion since gvs and tst are going to cross promote each other will they run the same classes, rules, ect.fridays will be fine until high school football starts then whats happens in august. im not complaining i think dennis is fair and a good person and has done a fine job at gvs.but someone else we all know tried this with tst once and we all know what happen then but we will support gvs in what ever dennis decisions are. and i agree with ron that the people like myself who does not get home from work until 6:15pm will be hard to make it on time to draw guess we will do the best we can

I know it sounds like alot but why not switch racing saturdays that way both would lose the same amount of $$$$ Then they both would be in the same boat! But it sounds like GV is getting screwed without getting a kiss! Hey Dan i don't agree about go carts have you checked out some prices on these gocarts ? I don' t think any racing is cheap!

Well merriman you never raced when it was one night a week so why want it changed now? oh and just in from a good source they are combining the hobby and super hobby cars at the bash it will be a 2 race in one ( i guess there is nothing wrong with that either) and no i dont hate gv and want it to go out of business! but common sense and talking to other drivers (5 today) who say they will have to run other tracks. We love gv and was really lookin forward to some good racing but due to what i believe of people stearing dennis in the wrong direction it makes us locals suffer, and i cant understand why those who dont support gv weekly has a dog in the fight and should not even be on here voicing there concerns!! it is a problem and is gonna explode becuase drivers are not gonna leave there track they have points at when dennis changes which leaves us locals feeling SCREWED!!!! I work with alot of tst drivers and even they say they are not gonna run two nights a week and that gv is making a huge mistake, so to gv i say treat your FANS and DRIVERS correctly and race on saturday nights if not i dont think you will have 20 cars total in the 3rd week and also with the economy the way it is you are forcing us that live 10 to 15 minutes away to have to drive 45 minutes the other direction becuase our track owner has turned a deaf ear on his locals....WAKE UP GV....thanks hunters nanny for helping get the point across

I say give it a try. dennis is a smart man and he knows business. if it doesnt work like this then im sure he will make a change. saturdays are better for me too but im not the owner of the track. Stop acting like dennis is trying to "screw" people. 5racefan do you complain this much when mcdonalds raises their prices? are they trying to screw you too? or just run their business?

I think you SHORTY read it wrong we're saying Dennis is getting screwed! These drivers ARE NOT GOiNG TO RISK THIER CARS ON FRIDAY NIGHT TO GO RACING AT GV ON friday NIGHT! TST racers are not going to go to gv on friday night and get thier cars tore up . You.ve got to think, oh i do own a racecar! TST drivers are going to stick with tst! WE helped out with childerburg and i coud not believe the small car count they had on FRIDAY night, and look good at Penton they have a bad car count, we raced there! DEnnis really better check in to what hes doing to his drivers and his fans ! Thing about it i don't have a dog in the race but i do know racing and hes ging to lose on this one! i hear hes got a big pocket book thing is to keep it keep racing on sat, I've got to say i love GV and TST! And i don't see gv making a good choice here! Look at childerburg now!

You cant compare GVS with Childersburg, If Childersburg would have paid the money and ran the place like they promised they would still be around. Dennis runs his track alot better than Childersburg did. As for 5racefan, I dont know what your gripe is with me and why you always try to make it personal when I post my opinion, but I raced my sportsman car at the big track this year (when I wasnt working) and supported GVS every kart race last season with my daughters jr latemodel, as a matter of fact I believe I was one of the few that can say I had a kart there every weekend there was a race. I have a hobby car, a sportsman car, a kart, and a jr latemodel that races thru out the year at GVS, so how can you say I dont have a dog in the fight. No matter, I still think GVS is doing what is best for them and I think more people will benefit in the long run than will "quote" get screwed.
