Boyd's Speedway Result 8-22-08
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was another hot day in the Tennessee Valley, but the temperatures weren't the only thing hot. The racing at the new Boyd's Speedway just keeps getting more exciting each week. With another full house of cars signed in to compete we started the night off with the first of two Heat Races in the A-HOBBY division. It was Patrick Wilson driving from the rear of the field to claim his victory in race #1 followed by Len McNeese and Todd Stafford. In Heat Race #2 Todd Hernandez in his unfamilar T86 started from the pole position, but he was unable to hold of a hard charging Steve Tate in his T1 as Tate went on to take the victory in Race #2 followed by Hernandez and Corey Cresswell.
As the CRATE LATE MODELS came to the track a short rain shower drifted over the track only delaying the start of their respected Heat Races. As the track dried the first Heat was taken by Todd Morrow in his T1 followed by Curtis Cline and Kenny Brown. In Heat Race #2 it would be Denny Slayton piloting the #10 of Josh Davidson to victory lane followed by Jeremy Pruett and Jarrod Green. It was now time for the always popular B-HOBBY's to take to the speedway. It would be Jeff Irwin holding off Jimmy Smith for the right to start in the number 1 position for the nights feature race. They were followed by Phillips and Totherow respectfully. In Heat Race #2 the fans stood to their feet with Micheal Brooks on the pole and outside pole sitter Lee Hogan starting up front anything could happen. But on this night Brooks held off Hogan and Jacob Stewart.
With 27 STEEL HEADED LATE MODELS signed in the field would be split up into three Heat Races. In HEAT RACE #1 it took several starts to get the race underway, but as the checkered flag flew it would be David Tinker holding off Jeff Smith and Jason Cardwell. In Heat Race # 2 Jeff Jones would start from the pole only to end his Heat early when he a Jerry Coffman got together coming off turn two. But it would be the Kayne Hickman show once again coming from the rear and passing a determined Jerry Coffman as the two raced side by side lap after lap only to see Coffman slip in turn 4 on the white flag lap letting Hickman take the victory by a nose. They were followed by Mike Tinker and Scott Boyd. In HEAT RACE #3 Andy Miller in his #17 would lead flag to flag followed by Mr. Consistent Reuben Mayfield and Jimmy Webb.
The last Heat Races for the FRONTRUNNERS would follow Mike Hale would find his way back to victory lane followed by Micheal Arp and James Bragg. In HEAT RACE #2 Kenny Kizzar in his #7 would finish in front of Stacy Wright and Johnathan Pett.
It was now FEATURE time with several brief showers passing over the track everything was put into high gear to be sure the nights event would be completed. First up was the A-HOBBY FEATURE Wilson would battle Steve Tate early only to see Tate retire with a flat early in the race. This brought the battle for the top spot now between Wilson and Len MeNeese. The two would swap lanes several times trying to keep the other off balanced and searching for the right line to pass the other. Wilson would keep his number 72 up front an take his first victory of the year followed by McNeese, Nash, Cresswell Todd Stafford.
The CRATE LATE MODELS were next would Todd Morrow dominate as he did several weeks ago. Front row starters Morrow and Slayton would bring the field of 18 to the green flag. Morrow would take the early lead with Slatten and Curtis Cline in tow. Cline would pass Slayton for second but could never muster a battle for the top spot with Morrow. A late race caution would tighten the field for the last laps shootout, but on the night Morrow would keep them covered. He was followed by Cline, Slayton, Pruett and Blake Stewart. Stewart would get the hardcharger award during this race coming from last to fifth.
And with showers still in the area the Track Officials moved the STEEL HEADED LATE MODEL Feature up next. With 26 cars starting the feature it would be a packed field competing for the nights checkered flag. With David Tinker and Kayne Hickman starting up front of an impressive field of cars. As the Green flag flew Hickman would take the early lead followed by Tinker and Jeff Smith. Coffman and Mayfield would battle for the 4th place early but would eventually drop back through the field and finish 8th and 9th respectfully. After a early caution the race would restart at go green to checkered without cautions and Hickman would take the win followed by Smith, David Tinker, Rick Hixson and Jason Cardwell.
The B-HOBBY would be up next pole sitter Michael Brooks would end his night early with a flat along with #88 Jimmy Smith, Jeff Irwin would go on to take the victory over Tim Totherow and Bobby Phillips. The Mini Stock (PONY) class would be up next and Grady Stokes would lead flag to flag followed by Terry Smith and Micheal Combs. In the last Feature of the night the FRONTRUNNERS would bring the full field of 18 cars to the track. Front row starters Mike Hale and Kenny Kizzar would bring the field to the green flag. The race would be slowed by several cautions for flat tires and even a blown engine of Steve Boyd. As the race continued could last weeks winner Dustin Cansler(the 14 year old sensation) drive from the rear once again and make it 3 in a row. He looked on his way as he moved into the second spot only to cut a right rear tire and retire to the pits. Kenny Kizzar would hold off all other challenger and win followed by Lanely, Wright, Holder and Swallows. The showers held off "We must be doing something right!" and another wonderful night of racing had come to an end.
Next week will feature the WINGED SPRINTS, 700 HSP, 120 mph not to mention mud slinging racers. Come early to get the good seats up high and further away. Yes that's right the mud will fly next Friday. So come early there will be NO MINI STOCKS. NO FRONTRUNNERS, NO B-HOBBY'S NEXT WEEK.
