First off I would like to say that I love Penton Raceway, the people that operate the track and the fans that support this nice facility. If it were a little closer to home I would be there every week. I race in the late model division and the racing is always very fast and clean however It is very hard to make up any ground especially with a crate engine, its like you have to wait for the guy in front of you to make a mistake to gain any ground or pass them. The track prep is always good, almost too good and everyone has good traction no matter what line they choose to run. I couldnt help but over hear the owner talking about how much time and money he has put in to the place making it more fan friendly only to have low car counts in the support classes and a lot of empty seats. The one suggestion I can think of is to change the re-starts to double file or a Deliware style where the leader is out front alone and then the 2nd place runner chooses high or low then everyone else fills in. It will make the racing a lot closer for the drivers and a lot more exciting for the fans. Just give it a try for a few weeks and see what happens. Word of mouth brings you about 80% of your business, when the fans see an exciting race they will tell thier friends and co-workers about it and with all of the on line forums and chat rooms, the word is sure to get out. I am not trying to be a monday morning coach or bad mouth the track in any way, I love the place and people and I want to see it do well. Great racing will bring the fans and the cars so anything you can do to make the racing better will be a plus for everyone.
